the holiday season is here...time to spread some cheer

The fa-la-la-la-la-laaaaaa of the holiday season is in

full swing and we more than happy to help our fantastic patients get a head-start on their celebrations!

For the next two months (there are only 17 more shopping days 'til Christmas), our Smile of the Month winners will be receiving gift cards to Mapleview Centre.

We will also be reaching out to families in need by matching the gift cards with two more to be given to teens-in-need through the Halton Regional Police: Toys for Tots program. This year they are encouraging donors to contribute gifts for 10-16 year olds. Gift

cards give teens the chance to go shopping with friends, something they might not otherwise be able to do.

If you 'd like to join us in contributing to this great community initiative, you can drop gifts off at the Salvation Army (5040 Mainway, Unit 9) or at any police station. You can also donate cash or Canadian Tire money at any Salvation Army Christmas kettle or Canadian Tire store. Pick up of large donations can be arranged.

The program will be running until December 16, 2011.

A big congratulations to our fall Smile of the Month winners, Aaron and Tanya who received itunes and Tim Hortons gift cards for their dedication to a good orthodontic experience.

Think big, act small, make a difference

At our practice, we believe in smiles. And we know it can be the most simple of acts that touches the life of a child. As we approach the holiday season, we are even more aware of the needs of children in both our local and global communities.

This month we are sending school supplies, with Halton-area volunteers, to an amazing organization dedicated to developing local schools in Dominican Republic - one of the poorest regions in North America. To learn more about this organization, click on: the CEED Foundation.

We also recently become familiar with a grassroots outreach program called the5dollarproject whose goal aligns with ours: to create smiles. One of their upcoming initiatives is to provide a holiday celebration for 50 homeless teens. We are donating toothbrushes and mouthwash to this wonderful outreach program. If you'd like to learn more about it, you can follow #50teens4christmas on Twitter.

A local Minor-A hockey team was also on the receiving end of some smiley fun when our office put together a silent auction basket, including the popular Philips Sonicare Toothbrush for kids, to be raffled off at their yearly fundraiser.

Winning is in the air at the office...our "Smile of the Month" winner for July is Sadeeda. She was very happy to take home an iTunes gift card - just in time to upload new tunes for the new school year.

And our first "Where are you taking your smile?" summer t-shirt contest winner was chosen randomly from our awesome selection of patient photos. Stephanie was beyond excited to receive her brand new iPOD Touch - in fact, she was so excited, she held it upside down in her prize-winning photo!

Heading into the summer with a fantastic smile is our newest Smile of the Month winner, Katherine.
